Acas (Advisory, Conciliation and Arbitration Service) provides free and impartial information and advice to employers and employees on all aspects of workplace relations and employment law. We support good relationships between employers and employees which underpin business success.

We also provide good value, high quality training and tailored advice to employers. This ranges from training and guidance on topics such as managing disciplinaries and grievances or absence management, to more specialist interventions around mental health and workplace resilience. Our expertise is based on millions of contacts with employers and employees each year and we are governed by an independent Council, including representatives of employer and employee organisations and employment experts.

Aspirations Health and Fitness

We recognise that a business/companies most valuable asset is their employees.

To help businesses support their workforce to live a more active healthy lifestyle, ‘aspirations’ health and fitness offer discounted memberships for employees of companies/ businesses that are registered on our corporate membership list. These start from just £23.50 per month for access to 7 fitness suites, 4 swimming pools, 2 Health Suites with steam room, sauna and spa pool, and over 90 fitness classes per week!

How to register your company for the corporate membership discount: Registering your company/ business is FREE and easy to do. To be eligible your company has to have 10 or more employees and complete a registration form. In return ‘aspirations’ will provide you with the marketing materials to promote this benefit to your employees and provide regular updates on new offers.

If your employees join, at their first visit they will be required to provide proof of employment with your organisation in the form of a company ID badge or recent wage slip so the discounted membership can be processed.

Shropshire Wildlife Trust

Shropshire Wildlife Trust works with businesses in Telford in lots of different ways:

  • Team building away days doing practical and fun tasks to help improve green spaces;
  • Training cross department staff groups who help to deliver Corporate Social Responsibility strategies;
  • Working with the Business Environmental Support Service Telford (BESST) to bring companies together to do practical task to improve green spaces;
  • Supporting companies at employee engagement events.

Shropshire Fire and Rescue Service

Shropshire Fire and Rescue Service provide Business Education Seminars aimed at increasing awareness of the change of legislation that came into force in October 2006 - The Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order. We offer support and guidance to help you reduce the risk of fire affecting your business and employees. We understand that many people may be unaware of the statutory requirements, nevertheless you are legally bound by them. As the enforcing authority for this legislation, Shropshire Fire and Rescue Service periodically audit businesses to verify compliance.

Feedback from previous seminars confirms that attending one in advance of your audit can significantly assist you as a business in complying with the legislation and reduce subsequent audit time.

The seminars offer unique insights and each provides the following:

  1. Gives you an awareness of legislation, your responsibility to do a Fire Risk Assessment and advice on how to carry it out.
  2. An understanding of what to expect when your premises are audited by us
  3. Examples of common omissions and shortfalls found when we have audited businesses.
  4. An opportunity to ask any questions, either as part of the group or 1-1 with a fire officer after the presentation.
  5. An information pack that you can read in advance of your inspection.

Telford & Wrekin Council

Telford and Wrekin Public Health are very pleased to be involved in Work Well. We recognise the importance of employee health and wellbeing as an emerging field that is crucial for a productive, happy and profitable work force.

We will support this project by hosting this website and providing a toolkit of practical ideas and best practice that can be implemented in local workplaces. Workplace Challenge

Energize aim to support workplaces in Shropshire, Telford & Wrekin to get their hearts beating faster through sport and physical activity.

Energize are the County Sport and Physical Activity Partnership for Shropshire, Telford & Wrekin. We work with a variety of local partners, acting as an information hub and knowledgeable support team for the sector.

Energize can help with:

  • Taking the first steps to an active workplace;
  • Encouraging employees to join The Workplace Challenge, a national scheme to encourage workplace activity;
  • Providing 1:1 meetings to discuss how the Workplace Challenge could work for your organisation;
  • Activity finder;

Work Well Health Trainers

Work Well Health Trainers are a team of qualified individuals that can support businesses and their employees by providing advice on the benefits of living an active and healthy lifestyle. Our health trainers offer FREE 1:1 health checks and provide advice/guidance and encouragement on ways of adopting new healthier lifestyles with regular reviews and support.

A health check appointment consists of:

  1. Biometric measurements taken – height, weight, blood pressure and body fat
  2. Providing advice and support on healthy eating, smoking cessation, stress management and alcohol intake/reduction
  3. Goal setting – setting achievable goals for individuals to follow.
  4. Signposting to other providers and organisations for advice and support on living a more active and healthy lifestyle.

The obvious benefit of having a healthy workforce is that healthier employees are absent less often.

Healthy workers are more productive, more motivated to stay in work, recover from sickness quicker and are at less risk of long term illness.

In addition, it improves the employees' health & wellbeing. In particular it reduces the number of employees with musculoskeletal issues and stress - two of the most common work place issues.
