Shropshire Fire and Rescue Service

SFRS have a free Occupational Health (OH) service including referrals for counselling and physiotherapy, annual fitness tests, three year medicals, and asbestos medicals. We also worked with OH to hold our first “Health and Wellbeing day” back in January 2016 where we had various free activities including Head Massage, Acupuncture, Nail treatments. The event provided free health checks including blood pressure, cholesterol and lung age. The event also had a meditation session,  dementia awareness session and several high intensity interval training (HIIT) sessions. SFRS are looking to arrange more of these days  including evening events to enable more of our retained staff to attend.

SFRS have corporate membership of gyms including Sundorne sports village and Albrighton Hall Hotel. We offer a healthcare benefits plan through “Paycare” which comes out of employees payroll deductions and allows you to reclaim the costs spent on health care and dentists etc. We also offer dyslexia screening and dyslexia training/awareness sessions and dementia training/awareness sessions.

This year we have signed the MIND Blue light Time to Change pledge to show our commitment as an emergency service employer to challenge mental health stigma and discrimination within our service. SFRS staff were offered an opportunity to play a part in a project aimed at devising a programme of mental health support for emergency services personnel and we also had training for Managers as well as general information and support for Mental Health.
